Earth’s rotation turns your couch into a cosmic carousel. If it is at the equator, rotate around the Earth’s axis at about 464 meters per second (1670 km/h). In mid-latitudes, for example in Germany, it is slightly slower. Local couches reach the speed of about a passenger plane due to the rotation of the earth. 

The path of orbiting the Earth is elliptical. Therefore, the distance between the Earth and the Sun does not remain the same throughout the year. It is closest to the Sun in January. At present the distance between the Earth and the Sun is 470 lakh km. it occurs. This position of the earth is called subsolar. 

In July, the Earth is relatively farther from the Sun. At present the distance between the Sun and the Earth is 520 lakh km. Lives. Hence this position of the earth is called Apsaur. (Shortening of Day and Night) Apsour’s position occurs on 4th July. The following effects of Earth’s rotation speed can be seen.

Earth Annual Speed 

The Earth, along with its rotation on its axis, completes one revolution around the Sun in an elliptical path (Geoid) in 365 days and 6 hours. This elliptical path of the Earth is called ‘Earth Orbit’. This motion of the earth is called revolution or annual motion. 

  • Perihelion :- When the Earth is very close to the Sun, it is called an asteroid. Such a situation happens on January 3. 
  • Aphelion :- When the Earth is at its maximum distance from the Sun, it is called Apsour. Such a situation happens on 4th July.

Shortening of Day and Night 

If the earth was not tilted on its axis, day and night would be equal everywhere. Similarly, if the Earth did not revolve around the Sun, in one hemisphere the days would always be long and the nights short, while in the other hemisphere the nights would be long and the days short. 

But in all other parts of the world except the equatorial part, there is a difference in the length of day and night in different seasons. At the equator, day and night are always equal because the circle of light always divides it into two equal parts. Therefore, half of the equator receives light in each case. 

Day and night position on Earth During the period from March 21 to September 23, the northern hemisphere receives sunlight for 12 hours or more. So here the days are long and the nights short. As we move towards the North Pole, the length of the day also increases. 

At the North Pole, the duration of the day is six months. From September 23 to March 21, sunlight is received in the Southern Hemisphere for 12 hours or more, as we move towards the South Pole, the length of the day also increases. For this reason, the day lasts for six months at the South Pole. Thus there is day for six months and night for six months at both the North Pole and the South Pole.
