Industrial Uses of Silicone 

Silicone is used in the manufacture of waterproof clothing and paper. If a paper or cloth is exposed to silicone vapors, a thin layer of it spreads over the paper or cloth thus making it waterproof. 

Greases such as Vaseline made from silicone do not freeze even at -40°C, so they are used as lubricants in aircraft. Aircraft fly from very high ground temperature to sky high where the temperature is very low, so it is useful to have a lubricant that does not dilute at very high temperature and does not solidify even at very low temperature, silicone grease Complies with all these conditions and is therefore used as a lubricant in aircraft. 

Silicone rubber becomes of such a nature after necessary vulcanization that its shape and elasticity become permanent, hence they are used in many important places. Silicone rubber window gaskets are made in spacecraft and jet aircraft to protect buildings from damping and to make them airtight. The Apollo astronauts, who stepped on the surface of the Moon with a very different temperature, wore shoes made of silicone rubber soles. Astronauts’ costumes are also made from silicone. 

Since silicon does not burn black even at very high temperatures, it is used as an insulator in electric motors and other electrical equipment. If a little silicon is added to the paints, then they do not fade due to sunlight, water, heat etc., so they remain good for a long time.
