Platelets are the cells in our body that prevent blood from flowing. In case of bleeding from the vessels due to any injury or other reason in the body, blood is stopped with the help of platelets. The regular number of platelets is very important for the body. If there is a decrease or increase in the number of platelets in any situation, then many diseases start occurring. Usually the lack of platelets causes the problem.

How Platelets Work

Platelets prevent bleeding along with healing the damaged tissue. This is also known as homeostasis. Platelets are elements present in the blood, which are made up of water-like fluid and cells.

These cells also contain oxygen-carrying red blood cells. Platelets are microparticles present in the blood which are seen during medical checkup. After an injury to the body, the platelets present in the blood start receiving signals, due to which they stop the blood by reaching the injury and bleeding area.

An important function of platelets present in the blood is to provide hormones and proteins present in the body. In the event of damage to the blood vessel, a fluid called collagen is released, which together with the platelets form a temporary wall and prevent further damage to the blood artery.

Excess in the body poses many serious dangers to the body. This causes the blood to clot, which increases the risk of heart attack. The risk of haemorrhage increases when the number of platelets falls below normal.
