Magnets are now a part of our daily lives. Already in the school period, we learn to understand their function and how to use them. (Types Of Magnet) Magnets create a magnetic field, where two poles are automatically created, which align and will be oriented towards the north and south poles respectively.

Different materials, such as iron and nickel, are attracted or repelled by magnetic action depending on polarity. However, not all magnetic materials have the same properties. There are different types of magnet that differ in material, size, function, strength, and application.

 

3 Types of Magnet 

 

1. Electromagnet

Electromagnets are technically made by induction, that is, they are created using electricity. An electromagnet consists of a coil in which a magnetic field is created when a current flows. The coil usually consists of an exposed iron core that directs and strengthens the magnetic field.

The electromagnetic effect was first proven in 1820 by the Danish physicist Hans Christian Oersted, the electromagnet was invented in 1826 by the English physicist William Sturgeon.

 

2. Permanent Magnet

A magnet which has permanent magnetism is called a permanent magnet. These magnets are made of iron, nickel, cobalt etc. Their magnetism is not lost quickly, so they can be used for a long time.

3. Temporary Magnet 

A magnet whose shine lasts as long as there is a magnetic force on it. As soon as the magnetic force is removed, its shine ends. This type of magnet is called a temporary magnet or electromagnet. This type of magnet is made by wrapping a copper wire on an iron or steel road and passing current through it. This types of magnet is used in electric bells, buzzers, motors etc.

Magnets are not always made of the same material, and may represent an alloy of iron or even steel ferromagnets. These differ from ferromagnetic materials, for example, in heat resistance. Ferrite can be heated to 250 °C without being damaged.

Another special feature of this material is that it is stainless, therefore, it does not rust and is therefore perfectly suitable for outdoor use. However, the attraction is very low compared to ferromagnetic materials.

On the other hand, neodymium magnets are particularly expensive. They belong to ferromagnetic materials and are also called super-strong or extra-strong magnets. They are much more powerful than ferrite magnets and therefore can attract and hold heavier weights. To date, the properties of neodymium (a rare earth material) have been further improved.

It is a material consisting of an alloy mixed with iron and boron (Nd 2f and 14b) that makes the magnet particularly strong, at this point also indicated or designated as a super-magnet. 

 

What are the strongest Magnets in the world 

To clarify this question, a distinction must be made between a permanent magnet and an electromagnet. One of the strongest permanent magnets currently available in the market is the Neodymium magnet, which is capable of holding loads almost vertically. 1500 kg. The world record for super power, however, we achieved with an electromagnet.

The most powerful man-made controlled magnetic field can generate approx. 1200 Tesla. To better classify this value, we should think of a typical refrigerator magnet which has approx. 0.01 Tesla.

In 2018, such a record was achieved at the University of Tokyo, which did not yield any result. The researchers thus set a new record, but with no small damage, as the door of the laboratory was also blown open by the powerful shock wave.

Another record was set by the Russians in 2001, generating a 2800 Tesla magnetic field; Fortunately it lasted only a few millimeters of a second before it exploded into the open air.
