This engine was independently tested by Schozoter in Augsburg in 1897, and diesel engines were publicly demonstrated at the Munich Exhibition in 1898.
In 1900, Diesel announced before the Paris Congress that the final form of the operating cycle it took after much experimentation was a four-stroke type of suction, pressing, expanding and developing from a single stroke sequence. The earlier diesel engines were air-injection engines and used very high pressure to deliver fuel to the engine’s cylinders. In 1910, James Mckechnic developed the solid injection system, in which a simple, high-pressure fuel-oil pump was used for injection.

The diesel engine is based on the principle of expansion of gases under pressure. The gas is created when fuel ignites and burns inside the combustion chamber (cylinder). The rotating crankshaft converts thermal energy into mechanical energy.
